John Chin

John Chin is a pianist, composer, and educator whose work engages jazz as an evolving language shaped by improvisation, composition, and cultural perspective. A presence on the New York jazz scene since 1998, he has developed a musical approach that draws from blues-based traditions, Western classical music, and contemporary improvisational practices.

He has released multiple recordings as a leader, including Blackout Conception, Undercover, John Harbison: Songs After Hours, Fifth, Anything Mose!, Sun of Music, and Journey of Han. As a member of vocalist René Marie’s band, he was a featured artist on her Grammy-nominated album Sound of Red and appeared with her on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts series.
