Talented jazz saxophonist, Kira Daglio-Fine along with Daniel Mesko (drums), Andres Rovira (piano), and Jack Aylor (jazz bass) will be performing at Faculty House on Wednesday March 2, 2016 at noon.  Program TBA

 


 

Kira Daglio Fine:

Bandleader, saxophonist, composer and arranger Kira Daglio Fine grew up in Lexington, MA and is currently a sophomore in Columbia College studying Mathematics and Jazz Studies. She has won numerous awards and scholarships at competitions such as Essentially Ellington, the Charles Mingus High School Competition, and the Berklee High School Jazz Festival. Kira currently plays in an MPP jazz ensemble and is the founder and student leader of the big band at Columbia, while also performing regularly with her own groups throughout New York City and Greater Boston.

Daniel Mesko:

Daniel Mesko is a first - year in Columbia College studying Economics and Jazz Studies. Daniel began playing the drums when he was six years old and has continued to play regularly since. His first encounters with jazz were in high school, where he played the drums for the school’s big band and jazz combo. In his senior year, he played with the Florida All-State jazz band, one of only two high school drummers in the state to do so. He currently plays in two MPP ensembles: a jazz ensemble and an Afro-Cuban/Latin ensemble. He plans to continue in the Music Performance Program through his time Columbia.
 


Andrés Rovira:
 

Andrés Rovira is a sophomore in Columbia College from Atlanta, Georgia. He began keyboard lessons at age 5, and discovered jazz at age 7, after listening to the Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson records his father put on in their home. In High School, he started playing regularly around Atlanta, and participated in Georgia State University’s Rialto Youth Jazz Orchestra. He was selected as Georgia’s All-State Jazz Band pianist for three years, and went on to win several state and national awards for jazz performance. After studying with Atlanta natives Phil Sims and Kevin Bales, Andrés is now a student of Bruce Barth at Columbia, while he pursues a degree in Economics-Mathematics.


Jack Aylor: 

Jack Aylor is a freshman in Columbia College from Nashville, TN. He began playing bass during his sophomore year of high school and now studies privately with Ugonna Okegwo. He plans on majoring in English.
