'MEET OUR STUDENTS" GRAHAM JACOBSON (CC'16)

What year are you at Columbia?

I am currently a senior at Columbia College (CC’16).

What are you majoring in?

I am double concentrating in Anthropology and Jazz Studies. I also participate in the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange.

How long have you been a participant of the MPP?

I have participated in the MPP since I arrived on campus my freshman year.

How have you benefited by MPP programs and performance opportunities?

MPP performance opportunities have enriched my Columbia experience, because they have been moments in which I performed for and with people dear to me.

Any tips on how a student might be able to fully take advantage of all the musical offerings at Columbia?

Manage your time well, so that you take advantage of as many opportunities as you wish.

How do you balance the busy academic schedule with practice time? any tips?

I think it boils down to how badly you want to practice. Are there meaningful ways in which you want to develop as a musician? If not (which is totally OK!), then10-20 minutes of daily playing (favorite repertoire, chops maintenance, etc.) is completely doable.

What was the most memorable musical experience in your life?

That is hard to say, but many of my most memorable musical moments have been performing with friends whom I met through the MPP.

What does making music mean to you?

Music is human being.
